Project Everest! - training drawing skills

I decided to make the "*CG Everest expedition" story. Making of the "Cedric Gracia tribute" pumped me up to do it. This post is about my preparations for my own way to climb that mountain. I bloody want to draw it as a comic or a kind of fake trip/race report. Let it be my New Years resolution, apart from making production prototypes of my frames and putting a few people on them for testing.

Cedric Gracia tribute

I made this drawing because I was so struck with the video Cedric posted on his blog showing his innocent crash on Reunion. It is hard to describe how many shivers it has sent down my spine and how many thoughts it has triggered. There were some revelations and really dark thoughts. I think Cedric did an amazing thing by posting it (and surviving off course), thanks to that we can all get a kind of a lesson, and each of us can do something out of it for ourselves. I am short on words, it is hard to write anything... ehh... I think... forget it... another time.

Neo liberal - Do we need Superbikes? Part2

This is the second part of the article where I am pondering the issue whether we need super bikes. In the previous installment I focused on why are they a breed of treacherous monsters capable of sucking up our time and energy, and why we should take a closer look at the development of our bodies and minds. I wrote about how we should acknowledge the limitations of the technology in delivering fun experience or taking us from point A to B faster, but now I would like to give technology some credit as we must also recognize the limitations of ourselves.

Le Petit Luddite - Do we need super bikes? Part 1

There is this question: do we need super bikes? Do we need all that super technology? Are super light bikes worth the money? It all seems to be a part of the bigger question: does the bike matter? Is it about a bike or about a man? There are usualy two arguments fighting each other: "you can have enough fun on a hardtail, it's about nature and friends", and the second one: "a light, modern super bike is more fun to ride - period". This will be a long one so I will have to split it in two posts but today I want to kick the second argument right in the face. Why? No, not because I think we should all ride rigid bikes with cantilevers, but because people saying the latter, express absolute certainty, and well, I am a smart bastard - I enjoy ruining someone's comfort of certainty, as to me such thing as obvious truth does not exist.

Leak #2 - Sheman-Oh answer to SPAM XX6

Everyone is wondering how will Sheman-oh answer to the SPAM XX6 drive train. My source in Japan has sent me a leak that the strategy and product line are almost ready. However at this very moment the board is not sure which of the three project proposals will be the way to go! I've been sent blueprints and sketches of one of the projects which is twofold! GOaR crankset and RideOn book of wisdom!

Waki bike

Ever since I started biking 12 years ago, I have been dreaming of having my own bike company, visualizing and drawing a line of mountain bikes, from XC to DH. Two years ago I decided to make one of those bikes real, design an allround hardtail and build it to ride it. Half of a year ago I got it delivered to my hands thanks to some good people in Poland who made me a prototype according to the project. Today I am sharing my experiences with you of how it rides, I hope it can give you an idea how good or bad a bike designed by a troll can be. Let me present you the Hard T(r)ail.

WAKI Leak #1 Geo-djuster

During my few years of trolling on various bike-sites I've been contacted by people who share my fears of how sincere are intentions of those who drive the development of mountain bike technology. Those are industry insiders who can't bear the weight of the hype they get involved in. Despite the eventual consequences, they decided to share with me the darkest designs of the bike industry, things that were not meant to be seen, at least not now. Together we want to save people's souls, time and money - we will unveil secrets that may stop you from buying "the next big thing" by showing you that what you see might not be that big. People deserve to know the truth behind the hype, before marketing departments will use their charms to soften our brain tissue with vague claims and inspiring pictures of Pro riders shredding the new stuff.

In this installment I am sharing a leak that has been given to me by a trainee at the biggest bike company - Ginormous. In their test facility near Woodlake, CA they are hiding an innovation that might cease the wheel size wars, a bike that can be adjusted to accomodate any wheel and give you the power to change the geometry, giving you all the angles you ever dreamed about. What Grinds my Gears #1 - The Conspiracy of Change!

Mike Kazimer posted an article on where talks about the fear of change, and I like the fact that he speaks his mind in that matter. I think we have too much fake objectivity in some articles these days, so I appreciate an honest angle. It doesn't change the fact that I don't agree with most of what he wrote, and here is my take on it. I have wanted to write it since a long time and that article finaly motivated me to get those thoughts off my head. The 650b wheel size frenzy will be used as an example to explain how the gears of "innovation" and "change" work, and that is because at least in my books it is a small tweak with quite big  consequences.

Bike test: Roubaix Stumpjumper FSR 29 EVO

I often wonder can there be any surprise when reading a test of a top-end bike? How spoiled would you have to be to ditch a 5000s + bike, carbon here, carbon there, golden stanchions and XTR all over. Journalists may seem hard to trust once you heard of the concept of reciprocity - when you recieve a sweet bike for a test for free, it's hard to be a bastard about it. I'm not journalist and I am not sponsored, so let me have my "independent" take on a super bike... wait! I got it to test for free... I can't even trust myself!

So here's a WAKi-leaks blog. Illustrated interpretation of things happening in the "bike internet" and on my trails. Let me present myself: my name is Wacek, I am an online troll, I bike, I argue, I draw buildings, I draw all sorts of things. I started it because I want to get stuff out of my head, I think too much, it must go somewhere, I do it mostly for myself but I hope someone will find that entertaining - so...
